Flugzeugmuseum Cämmerswalde
Small private museum in Cämmerswalde with an Interflug Il-14 passenger aircraft, a MiG-21 fighter and a Mi-2 helicopter next to a restaurant.
About the museum
The history of the museum begins in 1973: at that time a retired Ilyushin Il-14 was brought to Cämmerswalde at the Rauschenbach dam, reassembled and used as a restaurant and excursion destination. The aircraft, built in Dresden in 1957 with the registration DM-SAB, was first in service with the Deutsche Lufthansa of the GDR and afterward with Interflug, until it was taken out of service in 1970 after damage.
After German reunification, the innkeeper family Hetze bought the aircraft from the municipality; the restaurant is now in its own building next to it. In 2001 the site received official recognition as an aircraft museum. In the same year the family acquired a MiG-21 of the NVA air force, which had been flown from 1968 with several fighter wings and last served as a training aircraft at an officers' college. In 2006 a Mi-2 helicopter was added.
The Il-14, which once could carry 32 passengers, can also be visited inside. Information and exhibition material on GDR aviation complement the three aircraft. For families there is a playground and a park railway next to the museum, which runs around the aircraft.
