About the museum
The Rechenberg brewery goes back to 1558, when Caspar IV. von Schönberg granted the Rechenberg estate the right to brew. It is therefore one of the oldest continuously operating private breweries in Saxony. It brews with soft spring water from its own deep well.
The museum is housed in the historic buildings of the complex, whose brewhouse dates from 1780. The complete, still functioning brewing equipment from more than 450 years of brewing tradition has been preserved and can be viewed on a tour, as can the underground storage cellars. Since 1995 a modern brewery next door has produced today's Rechenberg beers.
A visit consists of a roughly one-hour guided tour of the complex; a drink is included in the admission price. In the Schalander, the brewery's taproom, Rechenberg beers and small snacks are served. Souvenirs and 5-liter party barrels are also sold.
