About the museum
The Viktoriastollen was driven in 1901/02 and connected the Viktoria III shaft complex in Engelfangen underground with the main complex of the Viktoria mine in Püttlingen. The surface complex in Engelfangen, with its adit portal and the colliery building, survived the end of mining and is now a listed ensemble.
To keep alive the memory of the mining history of the Köllertal, the Bergmannsverein Köllerbach set up an open-air museum directly in front of the portal together with the town of Püttlingen in August 2011. The grounds hold large machines and equipment collected from various Saarland mines.
With drilling carriages, a cutting machine, mine cars, a mine locomotive, a winch and a rope sheave, visitors can trace the path of the coal: from extraction underground through haulage to transport above ground. The small museum sees itself as a memorial to the work of the miners and complements the surviving buildings of the former mine complex.
