About the museum
The Heimatkundlicher Verein Gersweiler-Ottenhausen (local history association of Gersweiler-Ottenhausen) is based in the former Gersweiler town hall on Rathausplatz, where it also set up its museum. The "Heimattreff" (local heritage meeting place) combines association rooms, museum, books and archive material on village history.
The permanent exhibition focuses on stoneware from the Gersweiler stoneware factory, which produced from 1846 to 1901. There are also tiles and stoneware from Klarenthal-Krughütte, as well as glass and tools from regional glassmaking. The association also keeps copies of parish registers from Saarland and Lorraine, a library, and photos and microfilms of the archive of the Gersweiler Bürgermeisterei (mayor's office), which the Saarbrücken city archive microfilmed between 2002 and 2007.
