About the museum

The 32-meter memorial tower commemorates the Battle of Großbeeren on August 23, 1813, in which Prussian troops under General von Bülow and their allies pushed back Napoleon's troops at the gates of Berlin, preventing a renewed occupation of the capital. For the 100th anniversary, the Kreis Teltow had the tower built in reinforced concrete, then a new building method, in only about six months; it was dedicated on August 23, 1913, in the presence of Crown Prince Eitel Friedrich.

From 1998 to 2001 the listed building was comprehensively restored: it received an additional inner framework, cracks were grouted, a new spiral staircase leads into the tower from the museum hall, and lighting and interior wall heating were added to protect the exhibits. For the Siegesfest (victory festival) on August 24, 2001, the tower and the newly designed museum were reopened; the Landkreis Teltow-Fläming supported the work financially.

The small museum hall at the foot of the tower is devoted to the events of 1813 and the traditional victory festival, and displays uniforms, weapons, paintings, battle plans, and tin figures. Via 137 steps, mostly a spiral staircase, you reach the observation platform, which offers views of up to about 30 kilometers.
