Hebezeug-Museum
Company museum of J. D. Neuhaus in Witten-Heven with historic hoisting equipment, a winch forge, and a transmission workshop – visits by appointment.
About the museum
The museum belongs to the Witten family business J. D. Neuhaus, which has made winches and hoisting equipment since 1745. In 1977 Johann Diederich Neuhaus, from the sixth generation of the family business, began building an exhibition on the history of hoisting technology at the company's headquarters in Heven; today the company presents it as the JDN-Museumsdorf (museum village).
In historic buildings and in the open-air grounds, hoisting equipment of the company's own manufacture can be seen, as well as pieces from other manufacturers and industries, complemented by models and information boards. The winch forge cottage was furnished as it was around 1900; in a winch factory rebuilt in 1985, a transmission system drives a dozen machine tools.
Outdoors there are treadwheels, horse gins, and hand windlasses as well as a working replica of the historic Lüneburg harbor crane. The museum is part of the Route der Industriekultur and can be visited by arrangement.
