About the museum

The Heimat- und Brauereimuseum (Local History and Brewery Museum) was established in 1984, when the market town of Pleinfeld celebrated the 500th anniversary of its market rights of 1486. The municipality chose the former 17th-century Vogteischloss on Kirchenplatz as the site, which has housed the collection on four floors ever since.

The exhibition is devoted to the history of the town since the Middle Ages. On display are reconstructed workshops of former trades – including saddler, shoemaker, cooper, blacksmith and carpenter –, household and farm equipment, ploughs, carriages and sleighs, painted farmhouse cupboards, traditional costumes and religious art. A photo show presents old Pleinfeld, and there is also a section on forestry, two historic tower clocks in the stairwell and an instrument from the former land survey.

Because brewing has a long, now largely forgotten tradition in Pleinfeld, the museum was extended by a brewery section in the attic. It is considered the first brewery museum in Middle Franconia and explains the path from hops to the wooden barrel and the swing-top bottle. The museum is run by the market town of Pleinfeld.
