Heimathaus Prieros
Local history museum in an 18th-century half-timbered house in Prieros with a black kitchen, crafts, fishing, and archaeological finds.
About the museum
The single-story half-timbered house on the Prieros village green was built around the middle of the 18th century; it is documented in 1742. In the 1950s the dilapidated building was threatened with demolition. At the instigation of a Berlin chronicler and the village teacher, it was instead placed under protection and opened on August 14, 1955 as a local history museum – according to the municipality, the first museum in what was then the district of Königs Wusterhausen.
In 1988/89 the house was reconstructed, and in 2000 it received a new roof. Today the owner is the municipality of Heidesee; the Heimatverein Prieros (local history association) supports the upkeep of the house and organizes the Heimathausfest every year.
The exhibition combines the preserved rooms of the farmhouse with objects on local and everyday history. At the center is an originally preserved black kitchen (Schwarze Küche) with a large smoke hood. Also shown are farm household goods, painted furniture and textiles, tools of fishermen, blacksmiths, millers, and brickmakers, as well as archaeological finds from prehistory and early history, including remains of a mammoth and a Neolithic crouched burial. Special pieces include an iron chest with multiple locks and two pictures by the painter Max Lingner, who had a summer residence in Prieros. Outdoors, a bell tower, a farmhouse garden, and historic farm machinery round out the ensemble.
