About the museum
The Heimatmuseum Algermissen has been housed in its present form since 1981 in the former school building on Neue Straße. It is run on a volunteer basis by the Heimatverein Algermissen e.V. (local heritage society).
The extensive collections include an East German Heimatstube (homeland room), furnished workshops and shops, among them a pharmacy from 1863, along with craft and household holdings, historic school furnishings and a sports history collection. Numerous photographs show village daily life from 1864 onward.
Further focal points are the expulsion of 1945 and Catholicism in Algermissen. A roughly 2,000-year-old cistern, discovered in the mud in 1923 during canal construction at the Silobrücke (silo bridge), rounds off the exhibition.
