About the museum
The Heimatmuseum Biebesheim is housed in a listed school building; its older section was built by the municipality in 1805, and two more classrooms were added in 1902 to 1904. After classes ended in the 1950s, various groups used the building until former teacher Wilhelm Menger set up a local museum there for the first time in 1964. The Heimat- und Geschichtsverein (local heritage and history society), founded in 1979, opened the Heimatmuseum in 1981.
After about eight years closed for construction work, the house reopened on December 2, 2023, with a new permanent exhibition. On the ground floor, local history centers on the Late Bronze Age crested helmet of the Biebesheim type (Kammhelm vom Typ Biebesheim) and a Roman togatus made of Carrara marble; alongside is a movable Rhine exhibit. The first floor follows a person's life course from birth to death, with media stations on the teacher Hermann Wilhelm Hammann and a fretwork model of the Ulm Minster.
In the courtyard, a shed displays large agricultural machines from the pre-tractor era; a lapidarium gathers historic boundary stones, waymarkers, and milestones.
