About the museum

The Heimatmuseum belongs to the Geschichtsverein Bruchköbel (Bruchköbel history association). The collection used to be spread across two sites: the Alte Rathaus (old town hall) on Hauptstraße and the Neues Spielhaus, where the agricultural collection was housed in the southern wing of a former farmstead.

After the comprehensive renovation of the rooms in the half-timbered Spielhaus building in 2019, the two collections were combined there. About 85 square meters of additional exhibition space and 40 square meters for the association's archive were created; an attached vestibule links the ground floor and the upper floor. The new museum was officially opened in April 2023.

The local history exhibition shows Neolithic and Roman finds, coins, a coin scale from 1755, guild seals and documents, a leather casket from the Hohenstaufen era, as well as uniforms, household utensils, and ceramics. Other areas are devoted to agriculture, crafts and forestry, diamond cutting, which was widespread in the town, and the church world, with monks' robes from the former Antonite monastery in Roßdorf.
