About the museum

The Bruchköbel local history museum is located in a former farmstead on Spielhausgasse, a renovated half-timbered house. The Geschichtsverein Bruchköbel (Bruchköbel History Association) previously showed its collection in two places: the agricultural items in the south wing of the Spielhaus, and the other exhibits in the old town hall on Hauptstraße.

To bring both collections together, the association received additional rooms in the Spielhaus. These were thoroughly renovated in 2019, equipped with new electrical and plumbing systems and fire protection; an added vestibule connects the first floor and the upper floor. This created about 85 square meters of additional exhibition space and 40 square meters for the archive. In April 2023, the new museum was officially opened.

The exhibition ranges from Neolithic and Roman finds through medieval leatherwork to the 19th and 20th centuries, with uniforms, fire brigade equipment and household appliances. A separate area is dedicated to diamond cutting, which was widespread in Bruchköbel in the early 20th century. Also featured are Rodgau earthenware, Westerwald stoneware, tools of bakers, butchers, carpenters and shoemakers, and vestments and writings that recall the Antonite monastery in Roßdorf.
