About the museum
The artist Gisela Ackermann-Minwegen set up the museum in her parents' home in Polch after her mother Christina died in 1981. The house still stood fully furnished with household items that had hardly changed since around 1900; she named it "Christinas Stuben" (Christina's Rooms) and began to collect.
The collection includes Maifeld furniture, clothing, and everyday objects from the last two hundred years, as well as curiosities such as a floral arrangement made of children's hair from around 1900 and a very old Christmas clock. In the former barn, the museum displays around seventy dollhouses and dolls from Thuringian porcelain manufactories, dating from about 1860 to 1930. The annex has a gallery of silhouettes and works by the founder, as well as changing exhibitions; there is also a library and a room for readings and courses.
Since 2016 a foundation has run the house, renovating the buildings and preparing them for visitors. Behind the house, a garden with an arbor invites visitors to linger.
