About the museum
The museum is located in the inner courtyard of the Alte Propstei on Münsterplatz in Münstermaifeld, not far from the tourist information office and the Archaeological Museum. It sees itself as a journey into the world of our great-grandparents and shows everyday life in the Maifeld from the 19th century to the 1960s.
At its heart are shops and workshops furnished true to the originals: a grocery store, a tobacconist, a barber, a bakery, a cobbler's and saddler's workshop, and a classroom. There are also craft businesses such as a wheelwright's and a smithy. The museum advertises itself as the largest shop museum in Germany.
The museum's offerings include guided tours to other historic sites in the town, such as a Jewish butcher's shop with an Art Nouveau facade that had to close in 1937.
