About the museum
Dahlen has been collecting and displaying local history since 1910; since 1955 the museum has been housed on Wurzener Straße, in a listed building in the historic old town center.
The rooms tell the story of the town, which has held town rights since 1228, and of its crafts, documented by a guild banner, a guild chest, and old tools. Other areas display medieval weapons, the legend of the "Sackhupper", and domestic culture of the early 20th century.
One room is devoted to Dahlen Castle, which has been a ruin since a fire in 1973, and to the family of the counts von Bünau. The collection also includes early and prehistoric finds, household and craft tools, music machines, Baroque furniture, and bibliophile pieces.
