About the museum
The museum in Frauwalde displays finds from the early history of the region. The collection spans from the Neolithic through the Bronze and Iron Ages to the Sorbian settlement period and the era of German resettlement. A large part of the pieces was found by chance by farmers in the second half of the 18th century.
The area is rich in traces of early settlement: two Bronze Age burial mound cemeteries near Frauwalde bear witness to people who lived here roughly between 1400 and 900 BC. Overall, about 7,000 years of settlement history are documented.
Visitors explore the exhibition on their own using electronic media and an information and guidance system. The museum is looked after by the Heimatverein Frauwalde.
