Heimatmuseum der Parabutscher Donauschwaben
Local history museum in Bad Schönborn on the history of the Danube Swabians from Parabutsch (Serbia), from settlement to flight and expulsion.
About the museum
Parabutsch, today Ratkovo in the Serbian province of Vojvodina, lies in the Bačka between the Danube and the Tisza. From the mid-18th century, German families settled there, mostly from southern and southwestern Germany. In autumn 1944, most of the ethnic German inhabitants fled the advancing front; many of those who stayed behind died in camps. From 1946, numerous refugees found a new home in Langenbrücken, now part of Bad Schönborn.
In 1986, the Heimatortsgemeinschaft Parabutsch (Parabutsch home community association) set up a local history museum in the Bürgerhaus in Langenbrücken, which it still runs on a volunteer basis. After a thorough renovation and redesign, it reopened in October 2018; the museum has received several awards.
In several rooms, originals and reconstructions trace the arc from settlement through village life to flight, expulsion, and a new beginning in Baden. On display are sacred objects from the former village church, household and farming implements, and traditional costumes for different occasions. A special piece is the "Paradestub," where young women's trousseaus were once presented before the wedding.
