About the museum
The Kindergartenmuseum in Bruchsal was set up in 1988 and is considered the first of its kind in Germany. It belongs to the Catholic Vocational School for Social Pedagogy Sancta Maria, where educators are trained.
Displayed are play and activity materials, furniture and play equipment, old instruments and songbooks from the history of the kindergarten. Two display cases are devoted to the approaches of Friedrich Fröbel and Maria Montessori.
The collection is supplemented by specialist books (the oldest dates from 1840), professional journals, picture and fairy-tale books, school exercise books from 1896 and textbooks that make the development of preschool education traceable.
