About the museum
The local history museum of the town of Taucha was founded in 1926, when citizens gathered and donated finds, craft and everyday objects, documents, maps, artworks and photographs. It was first housed in the former hospital “Am Schmiedehöfchen” and was officially opened in 1933 as part of the town festival “Tauchscher”.
Several moves, some into unsuitable rooms, led to damage and losses. In 1968 the museum moved into the former brewery on Brauhausstraße, built in 1684, which was thoroughly reconstructed after 1990 and reopened in 1995. From 2004 it shared the building with the town library and kept only one small exhibition room.
In 2016 the town council decided to convert the Rittergutsschloss into a cultural center. Since January 2023, after the move there, the town has been setting up the entire museum, including a collections storeroom, special exhibition spaces, and office and event rooms. On International Museum Day, May 19, 2024, the new town history permanent exhibition opened. The collection covers everyday and folk culture, fine art, natural history, militaria, hunting and shooting-club traditions, coins, and prehistory and early history.
