About the museum
The Heimatstube is located in a listed building on the Althener Anger next to the church, which formerly served as a school. The association Heimatstube Althen e.V. runs a small museum here on the history of the village, which is now part of the city of Leipzig.
One focus is the village's connection to the Leipzig–Dresden railway, the first long-distance railway line in Germany. The rooms were renovated in 2022/23. In addition, the association organises village festivals such as the Easter bonfire, spring festival and lantern parade, and maintains a partnership with Althen-des-Paluds in France.
