About the museum
On about 180 square metres, the Heimatmuseum Eichenzell shows how people in and around Eichenzell lived and worked from prehistory to the recent past. It stands at the corner of Munkenstraße and Gersfelder Straße in the middle of the village. The origins of the collection go back to 1951.
On display are furniture, hand tools and implements from the household and workshop, documents and a suit of armour recalling the von Ebersberg family, who shaped the village for about 450 years. Around 70 large-format reproductions of historic photos from 1891 onward document village life in farming and crafts. The museum sees itself as a counterpart to the nearby Schloss Fasanerie, which tells of the life of the prince-abbots and landgraves, while here the focus is on the everyday life of the village population.
The exhibition is continually being expanded. Groups and school classes can arrange free guided tours outside the open times.
