About the museum
The museum is housed in the tithe barn, which was built in 1737 by the Prince of Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen. After the tithe was abolished, the building passed into the ownership of the municipality.
The barn opened as a local history museum in October 2000. Spread over five floors, it focuses mainly on the period between 1850 and 1950 and recalls that Empfingen was known for its bricklaying and stonemasonry trades.
On display are tools and workshops of various crafts, farm household and agricultural implements, medical equipment from local doctors and pharmacists, handmade roof tiles, Fasnet figures and traditional costumes, as well as documents on both World Wars. The museum is run by the Heimatkreis Empfingen.
