About the museum

On the site of the former goods station of Horb am Neckar, which had lain idle without shunting operations since 1979, the Eisenbahn-Erlebniswelt (railway experience world) was created. The association 'Freunde zur Erhaltung historischer Schienenfahrzeuge' (Friends for the Preservation of Historic Rail Vehicles) and the operating company SVG bought around 77,000 square metres from Deutsche Bahn. After the groundbreaking in June 2009 and the construction of the museum hall from 2010, the museum opened in 2011.

In the 250-metre-long hall, over 100 historical vehicles stand on five storage tracks: locomotives, railcars, passenger and freight wagons, with an emphasis on the era of electrification and the economic miracle (Wirtschaftswunder). In addition there are an exhibition on 175 years of railways, a model railway show at 1:160 scale, a small railway cinema, a museum signal box from 1912 and a signal collection.

According to the operator, since 2026 the house has been open to groups registered in advance, with a guided tour. There is also a bistro and rooms for events.
