About the museum
The local history museum is housed in the former workers' kitchen of a brickworks from around 1890 in Altgarbsen, just before the Mittelland Canal. It is run on a volunteer basis by the Museumsverein Garbsen with support from the city.
On around 350 square meters, tools, fittings and machines from households, crafts and farming recall the life and work of earlier times. The collection also documents how the present-day town of Garbsen grew together from ten rural communities. One focus is the brick and hard-stone industry, which strongly shaped the town between 1875 and 1980. Further sections cover prehistory and early history, natural history and the history of the association.
Special exhibitions explore themes of city and regional history. A group room for up to 40 people is available for slide lectures and meetings.
