Heimatmuseum Halver
Local history museum of the Heimatverein Halver in Villa Wippermann with local and factory history and a walk-in historic classroom.
About the museum
The Heimatmuseum Halver was founded by the Heimatverein in the late 1970s and was housed for a long time in a building on Von-Vincke-Straße. It mainly showed rural life, old crafts such as shoemaking and blacksmithing, and the region's iron industry.
In 2017, the collection moved to Villa Wippermann. The manufacturer's villa was built in 1895 for Gustav Adolf Wippermann, co-owner of a Halver distillery, and his wife Aline. In 1950 it passed to the town of Halver, which first housed the social and refugee office there, later the building and housing office. With funding from Regionale 2013, the building was extensively renovated.
Today the villa houses the regional museum "Oben an der Volme": on the first floor, exhibitions, readings, concerts, and weddings take place; on the upper floor, the Heimatverein shows the history of Halver's villages, factories, and people in changing presentations. A classroom with original furnishings invites visitors to step inside. The museum is run by volunteers.
