About the museum

The Heimatmuseum Heuchelheim is housed in the former station building of Kinzenbach, a red brick building from 1877/78 on the former Lollar–Wetzlar railway line, the so-called "Kanonenbahn" (cannon railway), which was in service until 1983. In 1985 the municipality of Heuchelheim bought the building, had it thoroughly renovated and handed it over to the Arbeitskreis Heimatmuseum, today's Heimat- und Geschichtsverein Heuchelheim-Kinzenbach. It was inaugurated in April 1989; the group had been collecting the objects since 1976.

The central theme is the change "from farming village to industrial location". Over roughly 495 square meters, the museum shows costumes, linen, crockery and farm implements, a farmhouse bed and a working loom from 1845, as well as tools of many crafts, from tailor to saddler. The nearly 200-year tradition of flax and linen processing and the cigar industry founded in 1895, which shaped village life for almost a century, are also covered.

A corner shop (Tante-Emma-Laden) and a 1950s living room, a playroom and a 1930s schoolroom complete the tour. Two historic rail buses behind the house recall the railway history, and a heritage room documents the expulsion and integration of the expellees.
