Heimatmuseum Hückeswagen
Local history museum in Hückeswagen Castle, closed since 2024 because of the castle's renovation.
About the museum
From 1963, the eastern hall wing of Hückeswagen Castle served as the town's local history museum. While the upper floor was used as the council chamber, the exhibition rooms lay below; access was through the historic tower. Topics shown included the town's textile industry, the old town renovation of the 1970s, the expressive dancer Joachim von Seewitz, and the arts patron Maria Zanders.
At the turn of 2023/2024, the museum ceased operations: the fire alarm system in the castle wing could no longer be repaired, and at the same time the general renovation of the castle was imminent. As part of Regionale 2025, the castle has been under reconstruction since 2025; completion is targeted for the end of 2028.
After the renovation, the castle is meant to serve as an open meeting place. Plans include an experience space on the town's history with guided tours and interactive and digital offerings.
