Heimatmuseum Radevormwald
Local history museum opposite the town hall of Radevormwald with a Bergisch living kitchen, town history and products of local industry.
About the museum
The local history museum is run by the Heimat- und Verkehrsverein Radevormwald, which was founded in 1925 and, besides promoting transport and tourism, has been devoted to researching the town's history from the start. After long preparations, on September 30, 1989 the association opened a Heimatstube (local heritage room), which was officially given the name Heimatmuseum in 1995. The building is on Hohenfuhrstraße directly opposite the town hall.
From fall 2004 to spring 2005 the museum was remodeled and the exhibition space expanded by a second floor; the reopening in March 2005 was celebrated with a museum festival. Over the years new acquisitions were added, including a large pewter collection and a historic carousel from a Radevormwald shoe store.
The collection of several thousand objects documents above all the town's crafts and industry: locks, cloths, wool, files, bicycles and sewing machines, toys and sporting goods from well-known Rade firms. There are also a historic postcard collection, documents on railway history and a furnished Bergisch living kitchen, where visitors can experience the traditional Bergisch coffee table and couples can marry in a civil ceremony. Each year the museum shows two to three special exhibitions with a local focus.
