About the museum
The Museum Mörfelden is located in the rear part of the former farmstead "Goldener Apfel" (Golden Apple) on Langgasse. It is run by the town of Mörfelden-Walldorf together with volunteers from the Heimat- und Museumsverein Mörfelden (local heritage and museum association); the full-time town historian also heads the sister house in the Walldorf district.
The permanent exhibition spans from the first traces of settlement in the Bronze Age to the 20th century. Recreated scenes show the village's rural and craft world, including a smithy and a wheelwright's workshop. The focus is on the everyday life of Mörfelden's population between about 1870 and 1945, told through individual life stories and the town's change into a residential community of workers: many men worked elsewhere in construction or industry, while the women ran the household and a small side-line of farming.
In a faithfully furnished workers' kitchen, the slide show with sound (Ton-Dia-Schau) "Wir Frauen – wir haben alles selbst gemacht!" ("We Women – We Did Everything Ourselves!") plays about life in Mörfelden between 1915 and 1935. Another section covers the establishment of Nazi rule in a stronghold of the labor movement. In the museum garden stand memorial stones from various centuries, and in the courtyard an old threshing machine stands out.
