About the museum

Museum Netpherland goes back to the Heimatverein Netpherland (local heritage association). As early as 1974, a collection began in the district of Grissenbach to document life and work in the agricultural region. In 1978 the local heritage museum moved into the old Amtshaus (former administrative building) in Netphen, a half-timbered house from 1856/57; later an extension added exhibition space.

The permanent exhibition is spread over three floors. In the basement it covers house wells, water management, and prehistory and early history; on the ground floor, the municipality of Netphen, the Weidenau–Deuz light railway, carters, noble families, and church history; and on the upper floor, agriculture, peasant kitchens, forest management, and crafts such as shoemaking, tanning, and weaving. A large room on the ground floor is devoted to changing themes.

The house has been run since January 2024 by the newly founded association Museum Netpherland e.V. It intends to rework the collection, bring the building to life, and also involve the art and cultural scene of today. A virtual 3D tour makes it possible to visit around the clock.
