About the museum
The museum presents the local heritage collections of the town of Niemes (Mimoň) in northern Bohemia and of the district of Prachatitz (Prachatice) in the Bohemian Forest. After 1945, many expellees from both places came to Ingolstadt and organized themselves there into homeland groups. In 1953 the city took on sponsorship of the Niemes judicial district and, in 1972, as successor to the Ingolstadt district, also of the district of Prachatitz.
In 1988 the joint museum was established as a sign of recognition for the expellees' contribution to the city's reconstruction. It is in the Pedellhaus, the house of the university caretaker of the Hohe Schule, which was Bavaria's state university from 1472 to 1800. The city of Ingolstadt restored the building, which had decayed after the war, and made it available to the expellees.
In six rooms, the exhibition shows the way of life of people in both regions of origin and the historical development of Bohemia. Since 2020, a collection on the town of Bergreichenstein (Kašperské Hory) and its surroundings has also been part of the permanent exhibition. A library and a fully digitized photo archive are available for research, which also makes the house interesting for genealogists.
