About the museum
The house on Kupferstraße is a late medieval townhouse that was rebuilt 18 times over the course of its history. From 1861 it belonged to the Fleißer family, who ran a forge with a locksmith's and scale-making business here, as well as a hardware shop. On November 23, 1901, the writer Marieluise Fleißer was born in the apartment on the second floor.
After renovation and expansion, the museum shows in a new permanent exhibition the history of the house, the blacksmith trade and the family, as well as the life and work of the writer associated with New Objectivity. The themed rooms on the upper floor are named after keywords from her biography, such as Talent, Success, Recognition and Language; among other things, her original writing desk setup is on display. On the first floor, the forge workshop and shop recall the family's trade.
Exhibits and a rich audiovisual media offering complement the tour. The Marieluise Fleißer Archive and the Marieluise Fleißer Society are affiliated with the house, which is part of the Zentrum Stadtgeschichte (City History Center) of Ingolstadt.
