About the museum

The local history museum is run by the Heimatverein Nikolausberg (local heritage association) and preserves objects from village daily life that were collected over the years. In 2018, with support from the Landschaftsverband Südniedersachsen (regional association of South Lower Saxony), the holdings were measured, photographed, described, and inventoried. Around 413 objects are now recorded in a database, and a selection can be viewed online in the Kulturerbe Niedersachsen portal.

A plan for a separate historic house failed in 2018 for lack of funding. Instead, the collection remained in the attic of the Otto-Nolte-Halle. From mid-2019 the two museum rooms were redesigned, fitted with LED lighting and display cases, and set up according to a new concept. In late summer 2022 the museum reopened; a museum guide was published for the occasion.

On display are, among other things, agricultural and household tools, shoemaking tools, paraffin lamps, sewing machines, children's toys, fossils, and an aerial photo gallery.
