About the museum

The Oberes Lahntal local history museum is housed in the former school building in Feudingen, a district of Bad Laasphe. Across four floors, it documents how people in the Upper Lahn valley lived, dwelt and worked around 1900.

The attic holds exhibits on agriculture and forestry and on the village's firefighting, as well as soil finds, fossils and minerals. The second floor shows peasant domestic culture around the turn of the century, alongside a postal agency counter and a lovingly furnished old village tavern. The first floor is devoted to the craft culture of Feudingen, and in the basement are ornately decorated pewter and copper coffins from the 17th century.

The building belongs to the town of Bad Laasphe; since 2020 the museum has also served as the town's wedding room. A museum team opens the house on selected Sundays, offering coffee and fresh waffles, and plans readings, film screenings and exhibitions throughout the year.
