About the museum
In 1976 Donnstetten celebrated the 1,200th anniversary of its first documentary mention in 776. On November 16, 1982, the local heritage society emerged from the festival committee with more than 100 members; it wanted to use the former parish barn as a local history museum.
After long voluntary work, the museum opened in August 1989. In the renovated building the society displays Roman excavation finds, complemented by a diorama of a Roman civilian settlement with numerous hand-carved figures.
In addition, a parlor, a kitchen and a bedroom are furnished with rural furniture from around 1900; there are also tools for flax processing and home weaving. The local heritage society still looks after the house today and offers guided tours.
