Room installation by the artist Marie Drea in the museum, with drawings and drawn pieces; at the same time, the municipal library shows an exhibition until 7 November 2026.
About the museum
The museum was founded in 1992 to mark the centenary of art printing paper: in 1892 the paper manufacturer Adolf Scheufelen commissioned the first coating machine on the European mainland in Oberlenningen. For this anniversary, the Papierfabrik Scheufelen donated a museum to the municipality of Lenningen and took over its concept and furnishings.
It is housed on the second floor of the Schlössle, a noble residence built between 1593 and 1596. The municipality acquired the building in 1983 and completed the renovation in 1992; the artworks are displayed inside without altering the historic shell. In 2010 the Förderkreis Schlössle acquired the exhibits, which it leaves to the municipality as a permanent loan.
Across about 200 square meters, the museum presents a short outline of paper history, handmade papers from around the world and, above all, contemporary paper art, including works by Hort Antes, Oskar Holweck and Dorothea Reese-Heim, as well as paper-space installations. Further sections are devoted to artists' books, hand-press prints and book objects that can no longer be read, such as those by Dieter Roth and Wolf Vostell. A children's corner invites visitors to make things with paper.
