The Heimatmuseum Preetz opened in 1993 on the ground floor of a town-owned town house on Mühlenstraße. It is run by the Heimatverein Preetz und Umgebung e. V. Since its early days it has grown steadily and now also uses the upper floor.
In five rooms on the ground floor, the history of Preetz is told from the beginnings of settlement to the present. Topics include archaeology, Preetz ceramics, silver and pewter, and the shoemaking trade. The upper floor has rooms for temporary exhibitions, a historic room from the house’s Gründerzeit period, and a small theatre hall in which the paper theatre collection of Dirk and Barbara Reimers, with over 100 theatres, is on display.
