On show are colourful advertising graphics by the graphic designer from Plön, among them Esso maps and works for the Dräger-Werke, as well as war drawings from his estate.
About the museum
The museum opened on November 29, 1955 as the district local history museum on Schloßberg. Its first director, Dr. Karl Hucke, placed an early emphasis on researching the glassworks of the region. In 1956 a friends' association was founded to take over sponsorship. As the collection grew, the house moved in 1969 to the old Plön town hall and in 1982 to its present building.
This building, the “Alte Apotheke” on Johannisstraße, is itself part of the town's history: a building already stood here in the Middle Ages, and in 1636 it was rebuilt as a brick building. In the ducal era court officials lived here; in 1756 the Rococo hall was created on the second floor, and later ducal daughters lived in the “Witwenpalais” (widows' palace). From 1803 to 1928 it housed the Plön court pharmacy; after the Second World War it provided housing for refugees, and in the 1970s it was threatened with demolition before the district bought and restored it.
The permanent exhibition ranges from the Stone Age through the Slavic fort of Plune and Holstein glass of the 16th to 18th centuries to pewter, silver, the Plön Shooting Guild and the former cadet academy. In 2017 the museum received the “Zertifiziertes Museum” (Certified Museum) seal of quality.
