About the museum

As early as 1911, members of the Odenwaldclub (Odenwald Club) collected objects showing how farming households lived and worked around the turn of the century, and exhibited them at Kirchstraße 41. This developed into today's museum, a municipal institution of the town of Reinheim.

From the early period, the kitchen, chamber and parlor have been preserved, furnished as if the residents had only just stepped out. In the 1970s an annex with a working forge was added, which can be in operation on Sundays. Next came a weaving room, a kitchen and living room of the 1950s, a gentleman's study of the 1930s, a laundry, and a small button-making workshop that recalls the Reinheim button-turning craft (Knopfdreher-Handwerk).

Special features include an old pharmacy fitted out with pieces from the collection of co-founder Julius Scriba, a large doll collection, a postwar emergency accommodation (Notquartier), and the air-raid shelter, opened on May 8, 1995, which is intended as a reminder.
