About the museum
The local history museum of the municipality of Rangendingen is in "s’Mahles Haus" on Schulstraße in the village center. It opened in 1997 with the permanent exhibition "Arbeit und Feierabend" and is looked after by the Heimatverein Rangendingen (local heritage association), supported by the commitment of many volunteers.
The building itself is part of the tour: the original structure has been preserved, and high-water marks from 1924 and 1955 are visible on the walls.
The permanent display shows how working and living conditions in Rangendingen and its districts Höfendorf and Bietenhausen have changed since the 19th century. It ranges from part-time farming by rural craftsmen, through industrialization, which in the village was first shaped by the knitwear industry with its female workforce, to how leisure time was spent in inns, clubs or out on the street. On display are craft tools, household items, historical photographs, documents and personal keepsakes. Occasionally, changing presentations on art, crafts or local events complement the permanent exhibition.
