About the museum
The village museum of Trechtingshausen first opened in 1988. It aims to show how people in this wine village on the Middle Rhine lived and worked in earlier times, and to explain the natural and local history. The village has belonged to the UNESCO World Heritage Site Upper Middle Rhine Valley since 2002.
The route begins in the hallway with geology, leads through the municipal area with its boundary stones to forestry as well as the region's plants and animals, and ends in a history room. The economic room is devoted to former livelihoods such as viticulture, agriculture, tourism, shipping and crafts.
On the upper floor, everyday objects as well as a typical kitchen and sleeping alcove can be seen. A specially reconstructed shoemaker's workshop illustrates the crafts, and a schoolroom recalls the old village school.
