About the museum

The local history museum is housed in the former forestry office building on Hauptstraße in Waldfischbach-Burgalben and is run by the Verein für Geschichte und Kultur der Heimat. It tells the everyday history of the people in the surrounding area, particularly on the themes of cooking and kitchens, living, and shoemaking.

The permanent exhibition is devoted, among other things, to the Heidelsburg, a late Roman fort destroyed around the year 350, which can be seen in the museum as a model. Other focal points are industrial shoe production, the history of the former municipalities of Waldfischbach and Burgalben, rural domestic life around 1900, and a reconstructed pharmacy from 1834, the first in the village.

The permanent exhibition is currently being revised. The building also houses a picture and document archive.
