About the museum

The local history museum, usually called the “Heimatstube” in Bissendorf, is housed in Haus Bissendorf, the baroque residential and farm building of the von Bissendorf family in the middle of the village center. It is run by the Heimat- und Wanderverein Bissendorf, whose volunteers take care of its setup, upkeep, and opening.

Covering about 140 square meters, the exhibition shows the geological and historical development of the village, its nature, and the everyday life of people in the outlying districts. Changing theme focuses place different exhibits in relation to one another, and some objects explicitly invite visitors to take part. The museum was reorganized in 2017.

A special feature is the original loom, where the team demonstrates weaving and introduces visitors to the craft. Since Pentecost 2024, the house has again had a Heimatcafé, which serves homemade cake and coffee during opening hours.
