About the museum
The Kulmbach bathhouse is first documented in 1398 and served as a public bathing room until the 19th century. After an extension in 1553, it reached its present size by 1580.
In the 19th century the building was used as a cooper's workshop. Later the town of Kulmbach acquired the house and had it comprehensively renovated; it reopened as a museum and gallery in July 1999. The Badhaus is one of only eight scientifically researched and restored bathhouses in Germany.
On the upper floor there is a gallery of about 110 square metres available for changing exhibitions.
