Historisches Museum Cadolzburg

Local museum in a half-timbered and sandstone house from 1486 with local history, building history and an exhibition on the composer Pisendel.

Opening hoursAdmission €4

About the museum

The museum is in the centre of Cadolzburg, directly in front of the Hohenzollern castle. The building was first erected in 1486, destroyed by soldiers in 1631/34 during the Thirty Years' War and rebuilt by the townspeople in 1668. It then served as the town hall. In 1913 it was due to make way for a new building, but the First World War prevented its demolition.

After a long renovation and restoration, the listed building is now an important exhibit in its own right. The neighbouring Püttrichhaus, linked by a modern glass structure, is also part of the museum ensemble.

The permanent exhibition has three focal points: the house as a monument, local history from the Stone Age to the present, and the life and work of the composer and violinist Johann Georg Pisendel (1687–1755), born in Cadolzburg. In addition there are changing special exhibitions.
