About the museum
The museum opened in 1998 and shows, across about 350 square meters, the industrial history of the former Döbeln district, from the beginnings of industrialization to the present. It is run by volunteers from the Harthaer Heimatfreunde.
Panels tell the story of more than 200 companies, and display cases hold documents, tools, brochures, and photographs. A dedicated area honors Prof. Kurt Schwabe, founder of the Meinsberg Research Institute for Chemical Technology, who worked above all in electrochemistry, corrosion research, and physical chemistry.
In two further rooms, the museum offers insight into the roughly 785-year history of the town of Hartha.
