Internationales Luftfahrt-Museum
Private aviation museum at Schwenningen airfield with around 40 aircraft – originals and replicas ranging from biplanes to jet fighters.
About the museum
For many years Manfred Pflumm restored aircraft for other museums and built faithful replicas of them before opening a museum of his own at Schwenningen airfield on May 28, 1988. From the very beginning, his full-scale (1:1) replicas stood alongside airworthy aircraft – on opening day itself, an Antonov An-2 landed at the airfield as a new exhibit.
The exhibition is constantly changing: almost 90 different aircraft have been on display since the museum opened. Some were swapped for other pieces, while others were built in the museum's own workshop and moved on to other museums shortly after completion. Types of which no original survives are a particular focus of the in-house replica work. Around 40 aircraft are currently on show in the hangar and on the roughly 13,000-square-meter grounds, some of them still airworthy.
The collection spans some eight decades of aviation history – from biplanes, gliders and experimental aircraft to helicopters and Cold War jet fighters. It is complemented by aircraft engines, ejection seats and an extensive collection of model aircraft. The museum is run by the Pflumm family; today its owner is Margot Pflumm.
