Museum Auberlehaus

Volunteer-run town museum in a farmhouse from 1718: Trossingen dinosaur finds, minerals, natural habitats, and town history.

Opening hoursAdmission from €7.50 Partially accessible

About the museum

The Auberlehaus on Trossingen's market square was built in 1718 as a farmhouse with the inn "Zum Lamm"; the paneled apartment on the third floor dates from 1725. It took its name from the house name of the later owners, the Maurer family. After the death of the last family member in 1967, the town bought the building and decided in 1975 to set up a local history museum in it.

The museum has always been run by the Arbeits- und Förderkreis Trossinger Heimatmuseum (working and support group), founded in 1973, which operates it entirely on a volunteer basis. The foundation was donations from citizens, who had already been called upon to create a museum in the 1950s, along with mineral and fossil collections. The museum opened in September 1977, and an extension was added in 1989.

After severe damage from a hailstorm in June 2006, the building remained closed for several years. The association renovated the lower floors with its own funds and many thousands of working hours and reopened in October 2010, including with a large dinosaur exhibition on the famous Plateosaurus finds from the Trossingen site. Today the museum shows, on over 2,500 square meters, Earth history, natural habitats of the world, Alemannic graves, town history, and everyday culture; since 2024, an elevator has made most areas accessible without barriers.
