About the museum
The idea for a miniature exhibition arose in 1992 in the municipal museum of Adorf. As an employment project, the workshop, model building and grounds were set up. The attraction opened on June 17, 1995, with 35 models of well-known Vogtland sights. In the following years, the number of miniatures grew steadily; today there are about 90 structures.
In addition to the model park, a botanical garden was created from 1996 on a mound of earth left over from the conversion of the neighboring Waldbad (forest swimming pool). The originally planned collection of woody plants became a display garden, which opened on August 21, 1999, and shows mainly plants from high mountain regions across about 3,000 square meters.
A special feature is the tufa area, where more than 100 tons of travertine were assembled into one ensemble. It is considered the largest of its kind in a botanical garden in Germany. Both parts still form a joint exhibition complex of the Museum Adorf, operated by the town.
