About the museum
The Kleinbahnmuseum at the southern entrance to Bockenau recalls the Kreuznacher Kleinbahn (local railway), which ran between Winterburg and Bad Kreuznach from 1896 to 1936. The narrow-gauge network was about 30 kilometers long and was run up to seven times a day until more flexible bus services replaced the railway.
The outdoor site features narrow-gauge steam locomotives by Krauss-Maffei, including a 1920 tank locomotive with 180 hp and a top speed of 28 km/h, as well as a restored carriage, a typical signalman's hut and an original signal mast. In the engine shed from 1896, a photo exhibition shows the period when steam locomotives were considered the most modern technology.
The association "Freunde des Kleinbahnmuseums" (Friends of the Kleinbahnmuseum) looks after the site and regularly holds events on railway topics.
